My ah ha moment.
As soon as I found out I was prego I started making a plan to lose the weight. I just KNEW I was going to gain a ton of weight and there wasn't much control I was going to have. I pinned everything health and exercise related and was a little bit obsessed with Pinterest because of it.
The first 3-4 months I gained only 11 pounds. I could eat anything I wanted and didn't have any morning sickness. It was awesome!
The last 6-7 months were HELL!
I couldn't eat or drink ANYTHING!!!
The only thing I could really keep down was pop. I (stupidly) thought empty calories from it are better than no calories at all, I should've just not ate or drank anything instead. Plus I worked nights at the time and it helped keep me awake. Funny thing is I quit drinking pop a few months before I even found out I was preg. Honestly I ate half as much if not less then than I do now!
I ended up gaining a horrible 57lbs and I couldn't even look at the scale at my appointments let alone a damn mirror. The hubs ended up seeing my ending weight at the hospital on the day I got induced because I was just too disgusted with it.
It took some time after I gave birth to have the thought that I could be sexy again and that I could lose all that baby weight and then some. But I finally did. I wanted to be an active mom, a MILF, and most importantly to feel attractive to myself.
April 18, 2012 is my official anniversary from starting Myfitnesspal and this journey.
I first started out by portion control. I ate what I normally would when I normally would but I would just eat a little less and didn't get seconds (or thirds).
I drank water like crazy and loved me some multigrain bars. I also started walking 1-2miles 2-4X a week. I also work
A few months later I started walking 5-6X a week and started buying better/healthier foods. Low fat, low sodium, fat free, gluten free, etc. I read labels and looked for less fat, carbs, sugar, and sodium and more protein and fiber.
I still made make the recipes I used to but made them "skinnier" versions. I upped my water to about a gallon a day. I also quit drinking pop and quit eating out regularly.
I started running in September and fell in love thanks to C25K that got me started. In November-ish I started going to the gym (since I get a free membership from my work) and began pumping weights and doing my cardio there.
I now work out 4-6X a week between and 1-2 hours a day. I keep myself constantly busy and hardly ever just sit down and relax. I eat around 1200-1400 calories a day. I'm not perfect and I do still have those days that I lose complete control but I'm still a work in progress. I have lost 75 pounds and have 25 left to lose I'm am trying my damnedest to lose as much of that if not hopefully all of it by my anniversary that is exactly 55 days from now!
What worked for me may not work for you. I'm not an expert of any kind and have never claimed to be. This is just what has worked for me.
Love,
Duffswife
