healthy nutrition

I was making my oatmeal this morning and realized that the "healthy nutrition" I was taught was actually pretty horrible!

This is How I make my oatmeal now.

- I measure out 1/4 cup of quick oatmeal(microwave it)
- I measure out 2tbsp natural PB
- I measure out 1tbsp of pure honey

This is how I used to make oatmeal until about 2 years ago.
-I would just fill my big bowl up with quick oatmeal. (microwave it)
-Fill half the bowl with milk.
-throw in several unmeasured tbsps of margarine.
-pour in tons of white sugar
-and add a dash of cinnamon.

I can remember my exact words to someone when they asked me why I ate my oatmeal like that. I said, "the only way I'lll ever oatmeal is if I can't taste the oatmeal and this is the only way I know how to make it."

The hubs and his cousin ordered pizza last night and I had one slice of the personal pan pepperoni pizza that was ordered for the kids and one breadstick.

Rewinding to a couple years ago (seeing as I could hardly eat while I was prego and was on my healthy journey last year). I would eat half a large pizza and half the box of breadsticks with all of that smothered in ranch dressing.

Growing up we were given foods that were deep fried and smothered in butter, a microwave dinner, or (what we ate at least once a day in the summertime) a frozen burrito. And that was what I was taught as healthy!

I want to teach Chloe what healthy nutrition is really all about. And what portion control is. I will also not make it a rule to clean your plate at every meal.

I wasn't taught portion control so being a small child given double or triple the serving size I should've eaten is not healthy by any means.

I'm going to teach Chloe what I know now and I'm glad that she won't have to live most of her life not knowing like I did. Ignorance is not bliss when it comes to your health.
