*I feel like making lists today ;)
Two things that motivate me more than anything and that’s
1. Seeing the scale show a smaller number or my clothes fitting more loosely.
2. Watching The Biggest Loser.
Here are the things I do not agree with about the show.
1. I read once that they make the contestants work out several hours a day and only eat around 1200calories.
-Even though I have only read about the activities on the show and haven’t personally experience “life on the ranch” I don’t doubt that the show will go to extreme measures to make sure to get ridiculous ratings. I mean come on this is the 15thseason they want to keep making money!
2. I don’t agree with how they talk to the contestants.
-I understand they are trying to motivate each contestant but personally when I was overweight if anyone. ANYONE. ANY.ONE. talked to me the way that way I would be less likely to work hard for them or even myself. I don’t know if I’m just a different breed of person or what but I feel like you get more flies with honey than vinegar or whatever the saying is. I understand they have babied themselves their entire lives and so have their families but you can’t yell at someone and expect them to say how high do you want me to jump??!!
-Last night’s episode showed Jillian who is my favorite coachtold a widow that he could no longer play the victim. I don’t agree with that at all grieving is not playing the victim. Now again I wasn’t there so I don’t know everything but it still kind of struck me wrong. Lord help me but if I was a widow and someone said that to me they would need medical assistance.
3. Also I do not agree with the contestants losing HUGE amounts of weight each “week”. I say that with quotes because another thing I read was that the contestants “week” could have actually been a few weeks so that they can get bigger numbers. For example that dude that lost 38lbs on the season premiere. I mean its not healthy to even lose that amount in a MONTH let alone a week. Also remember that to lose a pound you have to have burned 3500 calories...to gain a pound you have to have eaten 3500 calories. Sooooo for him to lose 38lbs in “ONE WEEK” he had to have burned 133,000 calories…how many calories do you think he ate each day to get that big of a number????
4. The women having to wear sports bras and the men having to take their shirts off. When I was at my heaviest and even now you won’t catch me taking my shirt off for nothing! Granted next year I will actually rock a bikini.. in public but I’m not on a television show and I’m not at my heaviest weight like them either.
Here are the things I do agree with about the show.
1. I like how they deal with the mental aspects of weight loss. They want to dig down to the root of your worries and fears and help you to move past them. They don’t let you sit and feel sorry about your past. They try to make you stronger mentally and physically in a nice and understanding way….sometimes.
2. I like that they teach them what foods they can and can’t eat. Last season they had a lady come on the show and show them how to make a healthy loaded baked potatoe and it was really interesting to kind of learn with them.
3. They put them in real life situations and try to teach them the do’s and don’ts for when they leave. Last season they gave two teams such-and-such amount of money to go to the grocery store and buy healthy foods and decide what kind of meals they would be making on a budget and they had to then make that food last just like they would in everyday life. They also have them go home for a week or two?? I can’t remember and then have them deal with the struggles of everyday indulges.
4. It motivates me to work harder at the gym and to make better food choices.
