The hubs and I got into Tulsa about 2pm on Saturday and went straight to the hotel. We were both starving and decided to eat at the restaurant in the hotel.
Fun fact about me I have the worst anxiety when it comes to driving.....especially in bigger cities. I'm from a small town and we don't have to deal with traffic or very many hot tempered drivers. We don't have to worry about much road construction, detours, or not being able to get to almost any destination in town in more than 10-15 minutes. Semi trucks, one lane roads, road raged drivers who want to cut you off like its their job, and the fact that I'm not familiar with the area freaks me out.
So another reason we ate at the hotel was because I didn't want to get lost. :) I sweet talked the front desk lady when we got done eating and she let us check in early.
The hubs had been up for over 24 hours due to his work schedule and not being able to take a nap before we left for our adventure so I tried to be a nice wife and let the hubs take a nap while I went to the expo to listen to Brandi talk and also to pick up my packet.
Come to find out there are TWO expos in Tulsa and I had conveniently found the wrong one!!! I went into the expo apparently from the wrong way and accidentally snuck in. I thought I was at the entrance when in fact I was at the exit. I was so lost and kept asking for help to find where to pick up my packet and where the conference was being held and not one person knew what I was talking about. Finally a security guard asked me what was up because I was causing a bit of a scene I just knew I was at the right place and come to find out I was at the wrong place.
I ended up getting lost in the wrong parts of Tulsa and seriously thought I was going to get shot a couple times. I ended up calling the hubs and freaking out because I didn't know where I was or where to go. My map app was sending me to the wrong places and my anxiety was through the roof! I was ugly crying and begging God to help me find my way. I finally found the hotel and made the hubs figure out where we needed to go..
Another fun fact is he has just as bad anxiety driving as I do...next out of town race I'm finding someone who does not have anxiety with driving in big cities to be my chauffeur.
The runner's pamphlet said that I only had till 6pm on Saturday to pickup my race packet and that I wouldn't be able to pick it up on Sunday. I freaked out and got in touch with one of my Facebook friends who was thankfully at the expo and she picked it up for me!!
I got to the correct expo right in time I think I had about 20 minutes till 6pm and I immediately found my friend and got to meet Brandi! I was excited and kind of nervous. I mean I have read her blog for almost 2 years and knew so much about her and just knew I would come off as a weirdo. We were going to meet her for dinner but seeing how busy the restaurant was and the surrounding restaurants my friend and I decided to call it a night and I went back to my hotel and tried to go to sleep.
The hubs and I laid down about 7pm. He passed right out and I laid there and tossed for a couple hours. I took a hot bath and just could not get comfortable. My $2 taste was not liking the $10 hotel bed if ya know what I mean. The bed was hard and felt awesome but the pillows were too big and way too fluffy. I'm used to my old worn in pillows at home. That and we got lucky enough to get put by the loudest people ever!! Until like 10pm they kept laughing loudly and I mean it sounded like we were in an amphitheater. They also had joy in slamming their door over and over like it was a game or something.......
To be continued
