Weekend Recap.

This weekend was VERY busy compared to normal weekends.

Friday night:  the baby stayed with her grandparents. I love when she gets to spend time with them but my heart always hurts and I feel like my soul is always missing without her. I decided to fill a couple hours of my night by meeting up with some girls I went to high school with and haven’t seen since high school. We are thinking about starting a local roller derby. Mind you I haven’t been on skates in at least 12 years and even then I never really used roller skates I used rollerblades or blades as the cool kids call them. Since I saw the movie Whip it I thought it would be cool to be in a derby. My first love will always be running and if there is a game or “bout” for derby on the same day that there is a local race then sorry guys but I’m going to do the race. Nothing is official and most of us aren’t very comfortable on skates to even start strategizing how to play or who will play which spot. But we had a lot of fun and ran through quite a few ideas. I got to see a girl who I have known for almost 14years and even though I haven’t seen her since college…eekk that was 7 years ago. She drove down an hour to help us out since she is a coach on a different team and has been playing for 3 years.

I predicted that I would fall many times and get at least 4 bruises. The verdict?!? I didn’t fall once or even get a bruise! Heck yes. Even though I’m in the best shape of my life skating was really hard. Once I got the hang of it my legs got tired very fast. I remember it being so easy as a child and I wasn’t ever in shape growing up so that was just weird to me.

Saturday: I didn’t get much sleep Friday night from my body hurting from skating the night before and I never sleep good when the baby isn’t home. I still don’t understand how my whole body hurts when I would just assume that my legs would be the only thing hurting if at all….because remember I run and/or workout 5-6x a week! But I woke up about 8am and got busy cleaning the house. The house was pretty much spotless when the baby came back around noon. We laid down for a late nap around 2 and we both woke up around 4. I had to get ready for my Zombie 5k that was supposed to start at 6pm. All day I really didn’t want to go mainly because I hadn’t seen my baby and I was going to have to leave her for about an hour and a half if not longer thanks to the race starting 30 minutes late.

This was the 2nd race out of the 5 races I have ran that I haven’t had someone there to support me and it’s never a good feeling. You want someone there to hold your Shit and to have at the finish line so they can see you run your heart out and maybe even show off a little bit for.

After a mile and a half in I got those reoccurring thoughts come up. You know the one that make you second guess yourself and make you wonder what the hell you are doing running that race and makes you think that you are not good enough. I get them EVERY race and let me tell you I am good enough! I am powerful and strong in my running!!!! I’m not the best by any means but I’m better than I was last year and that’s all that matters!!

I ran the first mile in 10 minutes…something seconds and I was thrilled!!!! I haven’t ran a mile that fast since before I sprained my ankle 2 months ago! I have been fighting to get back to the pace I was before I sprained my ankle and I finally got there! I forgot my ankle brace so I was in pain the entire race and considering that I’m happy to say that I finished in 36 minutes…something seconds!!!! WHOO HOO!!! That’s how fast I finished the last couple of 5k’s that I ran and that’s as fast as I have been able to finish them so far!. I have to add that we had an 80% chance of rain all evening even though it didn’t rain it was crazy, stupid humid out! It was seriously hard to breathe and I was dripping sweat after running less than a mile.

My ultimate goal is to finish a 5k in under 30minutes….Preferably 28 minutes.

I thought the Zombie race was very well organized and a fun idea. The only thing I did not like was that they didn’t give trophies out to each age group they just gave trophies out to the 3 fastest males and females. Personally I love the age groups because I usually get an award ;).

It was also really fun that they had a Zombie race the night before The Walking Dead season premiered!

The only thing I didn't like was the lame "goodie" bag. It was a paper bag with a bio freeze sample, a race sign up form for a race in November, and a coupon for Hibbett Sports.

Sunday: I spent most of the morning cleaning and relaxing with the baby and her cousin (who lives with us). I planned to wake up early and go run 7 miles per my training schedule but I apparently set my alarm wrong and instead of 5am I set it for 5pm. Ugggghhhh I ended up waking up at 7:30am and I’m not a fan of running in the evening especially long runs but you gotta do whatcha gotta do! So about 6pm I set out for 7 miles. For some reason my knees and ankles were aching really badly I got some joint vitamins so that should get better soon. It just was not a good run and I hated every minute of it!!! I only got 6 miles done and went home satisfied with that. The humid was just as bad as the night before and my time was horrible but next weekend will be better!
